Overview

How do young people in the Heartland of the United States conceptualize and experience civic mobility?

Civic mobility is defined as the ability of a person to improve their civic status over time. "Civic" describes the access to and opportunities for young people to observe, participate in, and learn about civic life, and "mobility" is measured by the upward or downward movement within a civic ecosystem over time. In this project, we use a mixed methods approach to explore the ways young people in the Heartland of the United States explore navigate civic life in their communities, organizations, and institutions over time.

How can I get involved?

Civic Mobility in the Heartland is an AmeriCorps-funded research project based in Omaha, Nebraska at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) through the School of Public Administration. We are particularly interested in learning more about the civic mobility of young people in states such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota.

There are a variety of ways to get involved with the project as a participant or a reserach assistant. Please reach out to us at civicresearch@unomaha.edu for more information.
